Observed National Mourning Day 2019 at Dhaka Commerce College

On the eve of 44th Martyred Anniversary of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day Dhaka Commerce College has observed a discussion program and various social events on 27 August, 2019. The chief guest in the meeting was the former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. A.A.M.S Arefin Siddique. The special guest was the former Jail Inspector General, Valiant Freedom Fighter Md. Liakat Ali Khan, NDC. The program was presided over by the entrepreneur and one of the founders of Dhaka Commerce College, member of Governing Body and former Secretary AFM Sarwar Kamal. The welcome speech was delivered by the principal of Dhaka Commerce College Prof Dr. AFM Shafiqur Rahman. The other speakers were the Vice Principal (Administration) Prof. Md. Shafiqur Islam, Vice Principal (Science) Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Masud and the Convener of the Cultural Committee SM Ali Azam. During the discussion program college student Rishika Rezaul delivered the historic 7th March speech of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

While observing the National Mourning Day, Dhaka Commerce College Social Welfare Club organized posthumously eye donation, free eye camp, willing blood donation, free blood grouping program. Dhaka Commerce College Film Club organized a documentary on Bangabondhu’s life and works, Dhaka Commerce College Arts and Photography Club organized a still picture exhibition and the Rotaract Club of Dhaka Commerce College published a wall magazine. Besides, Dhaka Commerce College also organized tree plantation program and other competitions.

Before that, on 15 August 2019 Dhaka Commerce College observed Quran Khani and Doa Mahfil. A Ilooal homage was also offended at the portrait of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During the floral offering program the Principal Prof. Dr. AFM Shafiqur Rahman, Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Abu Masud and the convener, Cultural Committee SM Ali Azam delivered their valuable speeches.

During the program the chief guest Dr. Arefin Siddique said that for a liberated country Bangladesh, Bangabondhu’s life was nothing but a great sacrifice. He added that Bangabodhu uttered on his own hat after his death from every drop of his blood there would be another Sheikh Mujib.

The special guest Liakat Ali Khan in his speech highlighted the context of the birth of Bangladesh as a free country. He added that one can be given citizenship but he/she cannot be turned into a true Bangalee. He further added that Bangabondhu has given us Bangla speaking independent country.

In his presidential speech Sarwar Kamal said towards the students, “You need to cherish the ideology of Bangabondhu in your heart.” He also said that without Bangabondhu independent Bangladesh is unthinkable. He expressed his grief by saying that it is sad that we are observing 15th August as the National Mourning Day by the deceleration of Honorable High Court. He said that Bangabondhu is universal.

Posthumously Eye Donation, Free Eye Camp, Still Picture Exhibition, Tree Plantation were inaugurated by A.A.M.S. Prof. Dr. Arefin Siddique, former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, Blood Donation Program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Malik Ifteker Siddique, Director and Chief Consultant of Shanddhani Eye Hospital. Free blood Grouping was inaugurated by former Jail Inspector General and Valiant freedom fighter Md. Liakat Ali Khan, NDC. Wall Magazine “Tumi E Bangledesh” was inaugurated by the former Secretary AFM Sarwar Kamal, Member, Governing Body of Dhaka Commerce College. The documentary and movie exhibition inaugurated by the Vice Principal (Administration) Prof. Md. Shafiqul Islam.
