Service Life: Began career as a lecturer at New Model Degree College in 1968. After competing Central Superior Service rejoined the then Pakistan Postal Service in 1970. He was appointed a Deputy Secretary to Govt. in the Senior services Pool in 1982; promoted to the post of Joint Secretary in 1992; secured the prestigious post of Economic Minister of the Bangladesh Embassy in Japan in 1994 and served up to 2001; promoted to the post of Additional Secretary in 2000; promoted as a Secretary in 2001 and served by turn as Secretary in the Ministry of Textile & Jute, the Ministry of Industries, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Served as the Secretary General of International Jute Study Group after retiring from civil service in 2005.

Social Activities: Besides serving as a government high official he is directly involved with many Social Organizations & Educational Institutions. He is a Founder Member of Dhaka Commerce College and was the Chairman of the Governing Body of Dhaka Commerce College from 2002 to 2009; he is also the Founder Chairman of Bangladesh University of Business & Technology-BUBT (2003-2010); Chairman, Board of Trustees, BUBT.

Service Life: : Professor Dr. Md. Abu Masud, the Principal of Dhaka Commerce College, was a Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Zoology at Choumuhani Govt SA (Saleh Ahmed) College from where he voluntarily retired on 8th August 2019. Prior to joining the post of Principal at Dhaka Commerce College on 26th January 2021 he was working as the Vice Principal of this college from 8th August 2019 to 25th January 2021.
