Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Masud

About the Principal

Professor Dr. Md. Abu Masud, the Principal of Dhaka Commerce College, was a Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Zoology at Choumuhani Govt SA (Saleh Ahmed) College from where he voluntarily retired on 8th August 2019. Prior to joining the post of Principal at Dhaka Commerce College on 26th January 2021 he was working as the Vice Principal of the college from 8th August 2019 to 25th January 2021.

 Professor Dr Md Abu Masud started his career in teaching with his appointment as a Lecturer of Zoolozy at Dhaka College under the 14th BCS General Education Cadre in 1993. In 2001 he was promoted to the post of an Assistant Professor and joined the Department of Zoology at Rajshahi College. Later in 2011, Dr. Masud was promoted to the post of an Associate Professor and started serving in the department of Zoology at Govt. Science College, Dhaka. In addition to serving in those colleges, Dr. Masud, in his long and successful teaching career, also taught at Tongi Govt. College, Gazipur.

In addition to his successful teaching career, he also has rich and diversified administrative and managerial experiences in governmental organizations. Professor Abu Masud served as an Assistant Director under Non-Govt. Teachers-Employee Retirement Benefit Board (BANBEIS), Dhaka. In addition, he possesses a long experience of a Master Trainer of the Creative Questions Method and serving as a Core Trainer. Apart from this, he was also the former elected Cultural Secretary of BCS General Education Society.

 Professor Masud, a life-long seeker of knowledge, participated numerous training programs both at home and abroad. He attended the Foundation training program conducted by the NAEM. He also successfully completed the 10th ACEM course organized by the same Institution & jointly placed 3rd. He attended ‘Certificate Course in Office Automation and Training Management (OATM)’ conducted by Tata Consultancy Services and financed by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India and was awarded ‘Certificate of Proficiency’. Besides, he successfully completed a three-week course titled ‘Procurement of Goods Works and Services’ conducted by CPTU (IMED), Ministry of Planning, Govt. of Bangladesh.

Born in 1965 in the village Hansmari under Gurudaspur Upazila of Natore, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Masud, son of Md Abul Kashem and Johura Khatun, possesses a brilliant academic and research career. Dr. Masud obtained his BSc (Honours) in Zoology in 1986 and MSc (Genetics) in 1987 with First Class from Rajshahi University. Later he obtained his PhD in Entomology from the same university with the University Grants Commission scholarship. The title of his thesis is “Toxicity of Botanical and Spinosad on Tribolium castaneum (Herbst.) and Sitophilus oryzae(L.) after Different Storage Duration”.

Dr. Masud has also made a significant contribution in academic writing. He has authored the book 'An Introduction to Zoology' for the students of Honours (1st Year) following National University curriculum. He has co-authored 'Biology Second Paper (Zoology)' for the students of HSC. He is also one of the translators of the 'Science' text book for Class Eight published by the National Curriculum & Textbook Board (NCTB).

The eminent scholar Professor Dr. Abu Masud passed his SSC from Kachikata High School in 1981 and HSC from Beel Chalan Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Mohabidyaloy in 1983, both under Gurudaspur Upazila of Natore. His spouse Kaniz Fouzia Khanam, an Associate Professor of Philosophy (BCS General Education), is currently posted as a Research Officer at National Curriculum and Text Book Board (NCTB). Their only son Sifat Moonjerin Srizon is a software engineer and Kaniz Tahsin Masud Tultul, the only daughter, is studying in the Department of Architecture at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka.
